When I think back to when I first noticed a hashtag, I had no idea what it was all about. It seemed to be a poignant afterthought or quick quirk at the end of a tweet. It took me a long time - like an embarrassingly long time - to realize hashtags were essentially a virtual filing cabinet. I even remember googling, “what is the pound symbol before a word on Twitter?” Haha! I obviously didn’t start out with a background in code.
